Pa. man gets 33 years in $17M Ponzi scheme

PHILADELPHIA - April 11, 2012

A federal judge in Philadelphia ordered Robert Stinson Jr. to spend 33 years in prison for charges he pleaded guilty to last year, including money laundering and fraud.

Federal prosecutors say they have only been able to recover $580,000 of the money Stinson bilked out of more than 250 investors through his Philadelphia company, Life's Good, Inc.

Authorities say Stinson promised 16 percent returns but failed to inform clients of five prior convictions, a Securities and Exchange Commission ban and two bankruptcies.

Stinson apologized at his sentencing and proclaimed himself a changed man.
