Police: Armed suspect arrested after punching officer

OLNEY - April 23, 2012

The incident occurred at 2nd and Linton streets shortly before 8:00 p.m. when a 35th district officer conducted a car stop.

Authorities say the male driver, who was armed with a gun, exited the car and punched the officer in the face.

The man then tried to run off, but was apprehended around the corner at 5900 North Mascher Street without incident.

The officer suffered lacerations to his mouth, face and hand.

He was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he is expected to be treated and released.

There is no word on the purpose for the initial car stop.
