Police: Child survives 3-story fall from window

LOGAN - April 28, 2012

The toddler has been released from St. Christopher's Hospital with minor injuries.

But it was a three-story drop from the window of the house at 4941 North 12th Street that could have killed the 1 year old Logan girl.

Philadelphia Police say the toddler fell out of an open window and landed in a trash heap below.

"I could sit here and cry right now," said one of the neighbors.

The neighbor didn't want to be identified, but she was horrified by what she saw when she heard the news.

Residents say a number of children live in the house, and they wonder how something like this could happen.

"I do know she has a whole lot of them living in that house, down to the big ones to the small ones," she said.

Last month, Action News reported a similar story in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia on 2300 block of Tremont where another 1 year old made a three story fall and was uninjured when he landed in a flower bed.

Philadelphia Police and the Special Victims Unit are releasing few details about the recent incident, but at this point, it appears to be accidental.

The incident remains under investigation.

"It is really sad when it comes down to innocent babies getting hurt, getting beat up and bruised. These parents better get on the ball with these babies," she said.

The toddler is believed to be back in her mother's custody, but the incident is still under investigation.
