It was an amazing night for all Philadelphia sports fans.
It was a Phillies game, but there was a lot of Eagles pride inside the ball park Saturday night.
Just hours after Brian Dawkins announced his retirement as a Philadelphia Eagle, he was at Citizens Bank Park hanging out with his fans and signing autographs.
"He took pictures with us, and he signed balls with us, he was a really nice guy," said Kelly Johnson.
"It was kind of exciting," said Russ Neff. "I mean he's a legend."
And the legend was getting some tips from Jimmy Rollins before the first pitch at Saturday night's Phillies game.
We could see green popping up in the sea of red as proud Eagles fans watched Dawkins take the mound and throw one in.
Many say his pitch was not bad considering his game was football and he was very good at it.
"Thick or thin, he plays, he's hurt, and he plays. You're hurt, he picks you up, and you play. I don't think I've ever seen a game that he was in that I wasn't rooting for him," Joseph Allessio.
"Heart and soul of the defense," said Phillip Salemno. "He was the inspiration and spiritual leader of the team, and just all of our favorite player."
There is still some anger from fans over Dawkins' departure from the Eagles, but many say they knew in their hearts that he would be back.
"He went out the way he always should have," said Neff.
Eagles fans say they hope that Brian Dawkins becomes a mentor to some of the younger players now that he has retired. They believe he can help them take their NFL careers and the Eagles to the next level.
