Students injured after bus crash near Dorney Park

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - May 11, 2012

It happened Friday evening near the on-ramp to Interstate 78, on the border of South Whitehall and Lower Macungie townships.

Authorities say the bus had 24 students and 2 chaperones aboard. It was among three taking a group of Pennridge High School students home from a class trip to Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom.

According to police the driver - 68-year-old Edward Parish - tried to make a turn unto 78 East. State Police say he had a green light, but not the right of way to make turns.

The bus tried to make the turn in front of another car. As a result, the car struck the front end of the school bus, causing it to rotate and strike a traffic light pole.

Officials say 15 students and the driver of the car were taken to area hospitals but their injuries were minor.

The bus driver is expected to be cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

An investigation into the crash continues.
