The classic tale of Cinderella has long been an audience favorite for the American Theatre Arts for Youth or ATAFY. It's a story of hope, expectation and making your dreams come true.
Everyone knows the classic tale of Cinderella. Mistreated by the wicked stepmother and her homely daughters, she finds her fairy godmother and, with a wave of the wand, she's off to the ball in search of Prince Charming.
Laurie Wagman, Founder & Chairman, ATAFY said, "when she comes out in her ball gown, the oohs and ahhs are just wonderful. It is a magical transformation and you'll see a lot of Cinderella's in the audience. You'll see 100 little ones and they've got their crowns and their wands".
When ATAFY was founded 42 years ago, Cinderella was the very first production Laurie Wagman put on, and it's been on the calendar nearly every year since.
"The costumes are dazzling. The direction is splendid and we have the most wonderful cast," said Wagman.
ATAFY puts on nearly a dozen productions a year, in nearly every state in the nation. Every musical comes with a lesson for the kids.
"She's a young lady with energy and drive and she wants to move out of that situation and by golly she does, with help from her friends. I think there's a piece of Cindy in all of us just waiting to get out," added Wagman.
