Arkansas mom, premature son die after stabbing

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - May 16, 2012

Fort Smith police spokesman Sgt. Daniel Grubbs says authorities rushed 32-year-old Celestia Duffin to a hospital where doctors delivered her baby prematurely, but both mother and infant died Tuesday.

Grubbs says Duffin had apparently run to the police station from a nearby traffic accident. Police found James Herring at the accident scene. The couple had been married for less than a week.

Herring was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and attempted murder. Formal charges could be filed as early as Wednesday. He is being held without bond and has no attorney listed in jail records.
