New Jersey Turnpike reopens after rig, tour bus crash

CARNEYS POINT, N.J. - May 17, 2012

The crash happened around 9:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 3.7 in Carneys Point.

The view from Chopper 6 HD showed a tractor-trailer off the road with heavy front-end damage.

A tour bus was pulled over to the side of the road.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Christina Hospital with minor injuries.

There were approximately 50 passengers on the tour bus, which was heading from New York City to Washington DC. All of the passengers were checked out at the scene and there were no significant injuries. A replacement bus was brought in to take passengers to their final destination.

Police say the accident may have been caused when one of the vehicles was changing lanes, but the crash is still under investigation.

All lanes on the highway have reopened.

The tanker truck was empty at the time of the crash.
