Truck catches fire after crash on I-495

CLAYMONT, Del. - May 17, 2012

The accident happened around 5:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes between I-95 and Philadelphia Pike.

Police say a tire blew on the truck causing the driver, 34-year-old Vincent Dixon of Newark, Del., to lose control.

The truck hit the cement barrier, rupturing a fuel tank. The fuel leaked onto a piece of wooden debris on the highway, which caught fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished and Dixon was not injured.

I-495 southbound between the I-95 split and Philadelphia Pike was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
