Gloucester Co. school closed after students sickened by fumes

WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. - May 21, 2012

Emergency responders were called to the Catholic school on Carroll Avenue at 11:45 a.m. Monday after a report that noxious fumes had sickened several students.

Police say one student became faint and another became ill during a morning assembly in the school gym. Several more students reported feeling dizzy a short time afterward. 13 students were eventually taken to JFK Washington Township Hospital for evaluation.

The school was evacuated and a hazardous materials team began conducting air tests of the building. The testing is not yet complete.

The school will remain closed Tuesday as investigators work to determine the source of the fumes.
