Phila. police officer involved in crash

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - May 25, 2012

It happened around 6:00 p.m. Friday on North Dover Street.

The officer was responding to a call for police assistance for reports of shots fired, when the officer crashed into a utility pole.

The vehicle's airbag deployed. The officer is believed to be okay.

Police are checking area hospitals to see if anyone was injured in the reported gunfire.

They are also establishing a staging area at 24th and Taylor, because they are trying to determine if a gunman may be holed up in a nearby house.
