Pa. student fatally struck after exiting bus

CARLISLE, Pa. - June 5, 2012

Officials say 15-year-old Dakota Ryman was getting the mail when he was hit by a passing car Monday afternoon outside his home in Dickinson Township, Cumberland County.

Acting county coroner Matt Stoner says witnesses told investigators the Carlisle High School student stepped into the path of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said the car that hit Ryman was a 2-seat Smart car. Police spokesman Ed Asbury says Ryman may not have noticed the small vehicle.

Authorities say the driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
