Beauty and the Beast arrives in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - June 5, 2012

Beauty and the Beast, a touring production, has taken the stage this week at the Academy of Music.

The Broadway musical version of the iconic Disney film is even more animated, if you can imagine! For the next week they are asking YOU to be their guest as they bring a fairy tale to life.

"We redesigned the film for the stage to give you a whole new experience," says Assistant Stage Manager Matt Gilbertson.

It's a tale as old as time! And this touring cast of more than 30 performers includes three graduates from the University of the Arts.

"To be back in Philadelphia is amazing," says Kyle DuPree, a member of the men's ensemble. "It has always been my dream to be in a touring show, so to come full circle is great."

Lauren Palmeri is the understudy for Belle, and this weekend she will step into the lead role.

"It has been my dream role since I was little, so to be able to play it is amazing," Palmeri says. "It's such an iconic role!"

Wardrobe Village, as they call it, features more than 100 hand-crafted costumes.

"What's unique about this production is the original creative team came back to reproduce this, so we have the original scene designer, costume designer, lighting designer, director and choreographer," Gilbertson says.

The show is here through Sunday, June 10th. Tickets are still available. Disney is of course the parent company of 6abc.
