Third suspect surrenders in shooting of Darby girl

DARBY, Pa. - June 6, 2012

Vernon Tyrone Smith surrendered to authorities on Wednesday morning.

Smith is accused of wounding Tahtiana Diggs with a stray bullet fired on Forrester Avenue while he was arguing with a man about drugs.

Investigators and the FBI tracked Smith's movements from New York to North Carolina before he surrendered.

He was arraigned today on an attempted murder charge and related offenses.

22-year-old Joshua Singleton and 35-year-old Lynette Crawford were previously arrested in this case.

Diggs is recovering with her family.
