Fire broke out just before 4:00 p.m. at the Stonington Farms Apartments located at 150 Commons Way.
Fire was coming from the third floor on arrival and a second alarm was struck. The fire was brought under control within an hour.
No injuries were reported.
Officials say the fire appears to have started in an exterior stairwell and travelled up the stairwell into the roofs of the third floor apartments.
The building contained 16 units, some of which contained heavy fire and smoke damage.
Residents in the fire damaged building have been moved to other areas.
