And right now, the American Red Cross is in need of donors to ease a critical blood shortage.
The Red Cross made the appeal during a news conference at Abington Memorial Hospital.
Donations are down 2-thousand units since the start of June, and the situation is only expected to get worse over the 4th of july holiday.
The Philadelphia area needs about 2-thousand units every day.
A trauma specialist at Abington made a heartfelt appeal for donors.
Dr. James Yuschak said, "Several years ago, I needed a transfusion to save my life. So I know how important blood donation is from a professional side as well as a personal side."
The national side of the American Red Cross is expected to make a nationwide appeal next week.
