Chester Co. hazmat ends with son dead, mom injured

THORNBURY, Pa. - July 2, 2012

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at Cheyney and Station Roads in Thornbury.

Action News is told by sources that a man said to be in his late 20s decided to take his own life by combining a number of toxic materials inside a small camping tent.

Later, it was found he had announced his intentions to take his own life on a social media site.

The man's mother came down to the tent, reportedly to stop her son, and was overcome by the fumes.

She was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where she has been treated and released.

One of the troopers who arrived on the scene was taken to Riddle Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

Hazmat crews closed down Cheyney Road through the night.
