Teen found dead near train station in North Philadelphia identified

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - July 6, 2012

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Tre Dawkins of the unit block of Twin Brooks Drive in Willow Grove, Pa.

It was shortly before 12:00 p.m. Thursday when two passersby discovered Dawkins, suffering from a gunshot wound, at 1400 W. Glenwood Avenue underneath the old North Philadelphia Amtrak station, which now serves as a SEPTA stop.

Police say Dawkins was shot once in the chest.

Police are investigating this as a homicide, but had no immediate word on a suspect or a motive in this shooting.

Police are also looking through video surveillance from the shops where the old Amtrak station used to be, hoping to spot both the victim and his killer.

The police are also looking for help from the public. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or through phillypolice.com.
