Police await ID of body found in NJ river

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - July 13, 2012

Clifton police are hoping for confirmation from the Essex County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday.

The man's body was discovered in the Passaic River, just above the Dundee Dam in Clifton Thursday.

Paterson Police Detective Lt. Richard Reyes tells The Record newspaper (http://bit.ly/Na0tev ) identification in the man's pants indicated he was Lucius Gardner. The 83-year-old, who has dementia, disappeared from his Paterson home in June.

The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission was cleaning the river of fallen trees and other debris from Irene.
