Police: 10-year-old shot protecting little brother

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - July 21, 2012

It happened around 10:15 Friday night near North 11th and Norris streets.

Police tell Action News that a male sitting on a bike, opened fire on another male who was sitting inside an apartment courtyard. The second male returned fire.

Authorities say a 2-year-old boy was playing outside when the gunfire broke out and his older brother rushed to protect him.

The 2-year-old boy wasn't wounded but the 10-year-old was struck with a stray bullet in the leg.

The victim was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Philadelphia Police say no arrests have been made but they are hoping that nearby survellience cameras will help them find the suspects.
