Police standoff at NJ jewelry store ends, no arrests

VINELAND, N.J. - August 3, 2012

Officers were called to Dondero Jewelers in the 2400 block of North Delsea Drive around 6:15 p.m. Friday after a silent panic alarm was received by dispatch.

Officer Luis Rivera was first to arrive on the scene and reported seeing a vehicle in the back parking lot.

As Officer Rivera approached the side of the building he found the door unlocked. Once in the store, the officer interrupted what appeared to be a robbery in progress.

The store's owner later told police that two armed men confronted him while he was locking up for the night.

Vineland Police, K9 Units, and the New Jersey State Police responded to the scene. It was later determined that the suspects had fled the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigators are processing evidence from the scene, hoping to positively identify the suspects.
