NJ man sentenced for beating wife with two-by-four

WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) - August 4, 2012

Fifty-year-old Thomas Tansey pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated assault in connection with the October 2009 attack at the couple's Logan Township home. The board broke several of the wife's facial bones and left her in the hospital for five days.

Gloucester County prosecutors say Tansey tried to create an alibi by goading his wife into striking him with a pipe. When she refused, they say Tansey wrapped her hands around the pipe and hit himself.

The two were in the process of divorcing at the time but were still living together. Tansey's former wife now lives out of state.
