Apartments planned for Philly pier collapse site

PHILADELPHIA - August 23, 2012

Developer Louis Cicalese is seeking approval for an apartment complex on Piers 34 and 35 on the Delaware River. It was Pier 34 that collapsed in May 2000, throwing nightclub patrons into the water.

New Jersey State Aquarium co-workers DeAnn White, Jean Marie Ferraro and Monica Rodriguez were killed when the pier collapsed.

The pier's then-owner pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and other charges after ignoring warnings the pier wasn't sound.

A planning commission vote could come next month.
