Brandon Wyche, 22, of Bluegrass Boulevard in Smyrna, Del. is charged with murder and related offenses in the killing of Benny Merrell.
Police say Wyche and another man approached Merrell in Wilton Park in New Castle, Del. on August 30th while Merrell was playing basketball. Wyche allegedly opened fire, mortally wounding Merrell, then fled on foot.
Police say Wyche was seen running from the scene. He was arrested a short time later.
The motive for the shooting is not clear.
Prosecutors also charged Wyche in the attempted robbery and shooting of a 28-year-old man in Wilmington back in June.
Wyche allegedly tried to rob the man at gunpoint as the victim sat in his car on Pell Street in Wilmington. The victim refused to give Wyche money and started to drive away. Police say Wyche opened fire, wounding the man.
The victim later recovered from his wound.
Wyche is being held without bail at the Howard Young Correctional Institute in Wilmington.
