A man charged with trying to bring firecrackers on a flight from Philadelphia to San Francisco was in court Thursday.

Police say 29-year-old Joseph Picklo tried to go through a security checkpoint back in March when screeners found two M-80's in his backpack.

They also found a plastic bottle filled with explosive powder inside.

Picklo told police he'd been fooling around with explosives and forgot to take them out.

"It's not the first time, at least in my practice, that some dentist forgot that his pistol was in his shaving kit. Sometimes people forget what's in their bag," Picklo's attorney told Action News.

Picklo faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

He is currently free on bail.
