Two women were seriously injured after the driver struck a telephone pole in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened around 5:30 Saturday morning near the intersection of Chalfont Drive and Kipling Lane.

Authorities say a driver lost control of her vehicle then slammed into the telephone pole.

The impact of the crash ejected the driver and trapped a female passenger inside. Firefighters were able to free the victim from the wreckage.

Both women - in their 20s - were taken to Aria-Hospital Torresdale in serious condition.

No word what sparked the crash.
