Man shot by police in West Philadelphia

Police say they were forced to shoot a man early Wednesday morning in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened just past midnight in the 500 block of North Conestoga Street.

According to police, a 20-year-old man was spotted on a bike with a gun by a plain clothes officer.

The suspect was told to drop the weapon but he did not comply and a shot was fired hitting him in the chest.

He was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police say a 32 caliber gun was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured.
