Police: Stolen lotto tickets netted woman $100K

ALTOONA, Pa. (AP) - September 20, 2012

Police in Altoona say Verna Barr used her winnings to fix up her house and take a vacation before her arrest on Wednesday.

Store management noticed a discrepancy in the amount of money coming in for tickets and the amount being paid to the Pennsylvania Lottery. Barr allegedly stole 569 tickets in one shift alone.

Investigators tell The Altoona Mirror Barr admitted taking the scratch-off and drawing tickets and estimated her winnings a little more than $100,000 over a 13-month span.

Barr is free on bail. A message left for her attorney wasn't immediately returned Thursday.
