One of the victims continues to cling to life in very critical condition at Christiana Hospital. The other was overcome with emotion when she heard police have found the vehicle and the driver who hit them.
"They caught him, and I just want to thank everybody for all their support and their help," said Judith Johnson.
Judith Johnson was walking to work with her friend, 52-year-old Maria Eldreth, Tuesday morning when they were run down from behind.
The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pencader Corporate Center near Glasgow.
The driver never stopped as Johnson yelled after him. She was treated for minor injuries.
Maria took the full force of the impact. She continues to be hospitalized in critical condition with her daughter at her side.Other relatives are flying in from Spain.
The vehicle involved, a small SUV, was spotted on surveillance video. Police found the car and the driver Tuesday night a little over 12 hours after the accident.
Judith Johnson says she hopes he gets what he deserves.
"If he goes to prison, he will never get out; he will never, never get out or that prison. "I just hope he knows that he should have stopped," Judith said.
Police say they are still interviewing the driver and witnesses.
The SUV had a white temporary Delaware tag.
Police are not saying where the vehicle was found, and they are not identifying the driver since he has not yet been charged.
Judith says the pending arrest is a tremendous relief for her and Maria's fellow UPS employees.
"I called the co-workers. The one and they passed it on, and they are all happy they got the guy," she said.
Action News spoke with Maria's daughter, Rebecca, Wednesday and she says there is no hope for her mother. She will be removed from life support on Friday after her relatives from Spain have a chance to say their goodbyes.
Rebecca just wants the public to know she appreciates all their support.
