Parking lot scam targets elderly man in Burlington County, NJ

EVESHAM TWP., N.J. - October 16, 2012

One of the suspects was caught on camera.

It happened Monday in the parking lot of the Walmart on East Route 70 in Evesham.

Police say one man approached the 84-year-old victim and told him he was stranded and needed a ride to a nearby supermarket. The victim agreed.

When they arrived at the supermarket, another man got into the victim's car. The two suspects worked together to persuade the victim to drive them to his bank, the TD Bank at 225 Greentree Road, and withdraw $2800 from his savings account.

The men promised to return the money in half an hour. When they didn't come back, the victim called police.

Police are looking for two black men in their 40s or 50s. One of the suspects is described as heavy-set.

Surveillance cameras at the Walmart captured one of the suspects entering the store. It also captured the silver minivan that the suspect was traveling in.
