Lockdown lifted at 2 Camden Co. schools

October 17, 2012

The schools involved were Clementon Elementary, located at 4 Audubon Avenue in Clementon, and Albert M. Bean Elementary, located at 70 East 3rd Avenue in Pine Hill.

The lockdown went in to effect around 9:00 a.m. and was lifted shortly before 12:00 p.m.

It began when a resident of an apartment building nearby told police he saw two men standing in the hallway, one of them armed with a semi-automatic gun.

The caller ran out of the building and, when police arrived, they saw the two men run across Branch Road and into the woods.

There is still no sign of the reported gunmen and police called off the search.

The Superintendent of Clementon Schools and the Pine Hill Elementary School tells Action News that nobody tried to get into the schools. They were notified by the police about activity in the area of the search and went on lockdown as a precaution.

All interior school activities are proceeding on their normal schedule.
