Rescuers come to the aid of a cat stuck in sewer

PHILADELPHIA - October 18, 2012

Neighbors around Fayette and Sharpnack Streets in Mount Airy say they called animal control after hearing the cat's distressed cries Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, the furry body belonging to those meows could not be located, but hope was not lost.

"When I woke up this morning, I saw about two or three trucks, about 6 or 7 men working to get the cat out," said Lillian Jones.

After the water department finally pulled the kitten from the storm drain, the little guy managed to further elude rescuers by running under a car.

He is headed to the SPCA to find a home, above ground.
