Tornado confirmed in Lancaster County

PARADISE TWP., Pa. - October 20, 2012

The tornado touched down around 8:10 p.m. and roared for 16 miles between Fern Glen and Paradise Township, with an estimated maximum wind speed between 100-110 mph and a maximum width of 200 yards.

According to the National Weather Service, 50 structures were damaged, several barns were destroyed, and an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 trees were knocked down. In all, damages are estimated between three to five million dollars.

Action News was out in Paradise Township shortly after the worst of the weather moved through. 15 people were hurt here when a 40 foot tall pavilion came crashing down. Officials say several dozen people attending a baseball game turned to the pavilion for shelter when the storm hit.

Most of the injuries were relatively minor, although police tell us one man broke his leg.
