A man and a woman are facing a number of charges after a driver fled from police in West Philadelphia and struck a pedestrian.

The incident started around 12:15 Sunday morning when 19th district officers attempted to pull over a vehicle near 63rd Street and Girard Avenue for traffic violations.

Authorities say the driver of the car sped away from police and lost control near the 6200 block of Callowhill Street, striking a pedestrian.

The vehicle continued and eventually struck a utility pole, pulling down several wires onto a tree, sparking a fire.

The pedestrian was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. No word on their condition.

Fire and PECO crews were also called to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
