The incident took place shortly before 10:00 p.m. at 7th and West Ontario streets.
Police say a 55-year-old woman who owns a corner grocery store left her job and took a taxi home.
When she arrived, four masked men were waiting for her.
The suspects followed her inside the home and bound both the woman and her adult daughter.
The women had their eyes, hands, feet, and mouths all duct taped.
Authorities say the four men pointed guns at the victims' heads.
They then ransacked the home and got away with $5,000 in cash.
"[The suspects] were either waiting for or had just followed this woman to her home after she got done work and we believe there's a possibility they may have been conducting some surveillance to her business. So we're going to check some cameras in that area also," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Police say they are interviewing a neighbor who may have witnessed the scene.
The victims were uninjured in the attack.
