A slain Pennsylvania police officer's canine partner has retired and will spend the rest of his days with the officer's family.

Plymouth Township police Chief Joseph Lawrence officially retired K-9 officer Nick on Monday and the township transferred him to the family of Officer Brad Fox.

Fox was killed in the line of duty in September while pursuing a suspect in September. Authorities say a hit-and-run driver who fled police on foot ambushed Fox, killing him and wounding Nick before turning the gun on himself.

Deputy Chief John Myrsiades says police are giving Nick to Fox's family as a way to help them "as whole as possible."
