Woman injured jumping from SW Phila. fire

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - November 25, 2012

Crews were called out to the 2500 block of South 71st Street just after 2:30 a.m. where they found flames shooting from the first floor of the residence.

Firefighters quickly went to work battling the flames and called in extra manpower as the fire spread throughout the home and to the upper floors.

Officials say one female resident in her late 20s was critically injured after she jumped from a second floor window to avoid the smoke and flames.

She was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania suffering from smoke inhalation and injuries sustained in the jump.

There is no word on what sparked the blaze.
