Democrats take aim at bid to privatize Pa. lottery

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - December 4, 2012

Senate Democrats are asking for an unredacted copy of the proposed agreement between the state and Camelot Global Services and a full explanation of the scope of expanded lottery gambling under it.

House Democrats say the proposed agreement would ensure that Camelot stands to reap hundreds of millions of dollars in profits that otherwise would go to programs for the state's seniors for their prescription drugs, transportation, property taxes and rent.

Gov. Tom Corbett says he's exploring privatization of the lottery management to see if a private company can boost lottery revenue for the state's growing elderly population.
