Police: Man on roof tried to evade officers in Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. - December 5, 2012

It happened at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Lancaster Avenue.

The Department of Corrections tells Action News that officers from the Plummer Community Corrections Center in Wilmington were trying to take Dwight Charles into custody when he tried to flee by climbing onto a roof.

Charles, 23, was wanted for leaving the Plummer Center on Thanksgiving Day and failing to return.

The Plummer Center is a facility for offenders who are transitioning back into the community after serving their sentences.

Charles was wrapping up a 6-month sentence for burglary.

Corrections officers spent about 10 minutes trying to coax Charles down from the roof.

He finally came down a ladder and was taken into custody.

There is no word on what charges will be filed, if any.
