Target vs. Walmart vs. Kmart. Who's cheapest?

Dec. 10, 2012

Cheapism.com, a website that makes comparisons among all sorts of cheap products, crunched the numbers to find out.

To compare the three big box stores, Kmart, Walmart and Target, they created a shopping list of products that cost around $1700 total.

Max Levitte of Cheapism says, "Walmart was the absolute winner for straight price, $100 less than Target and $300 less than Kmart. Surprisingly, Kmart was much pricier than the other two.

But price isn't always the only consideration when you're shopping. So the site looked at product quality and customer satisfaction as well.

"We were kind of surprised to find out that Walmart was almost the same quality as Target. The feeling was better about Target, somehow. The shopping experience was better, the stores seem more organized, less hectic," Levitte says.

Target had the highest quality clothing, though the celebrity lines at Kmart rated OK as well.

In terms of groceries, Walmart was the winner again -- with the biggest selection in addition to the best quality.

And Walmart's online shopping experience was also a winner -- with the biggest selection and free shipping options.
