Supermarkets crowded with last minute shoppers

CHERRY HILL, NJ - December 23, 2012

Santa may be a pro at filling his sleigh with toys, but he's got nothing on the shoppers who were filling up their carts with food at the Wegmans in Cherry Hill Sunday.

Fish, turkey, ham and sometimes "all the above" were flying off the shelves, as shoppers stocked up on what they'll need to make that perfect, traditional holiday feast.

"I'm 83 and each year my big cooking extravaganza is the Polish Christmas Eve dinner," said Stas Chmielewski of Haddonfield.

Amy Carthy of Haddonfield was expecting somewhere between 25 and 35 of her nearest and dearest.

"We couldn't decide so we're having ham, lamb and turkey," said Carthy.

For Jennifer Kilpatrick of Collingswood, the holiday meal is all about the desserts.

"I like to bake, so I'm baking some raspberry cakes and lemon cakes," Kilpatrick said.

Sue Tarantini of Westmont is expecting a crowd Christmas morning.

"We're making French toast and sausage and bacon," Tarantini said.

And it wasn't just food; the store also had plenty of toys, decorations and paper goods on sale for those who hadn't yet stocked up.

If you haven't done your food shopping yet, no worries! The Wegmans in Cherry Hill will be open until midnight.
