Victim ID'd in Kensington Christmas hit-and-run

KENSINGTON - December 27, 2012

In a statement released Thursday morning, police have identified the victim as 54-year-old Denise Williams of the 5400 block of Euclid Street.

After speaking to witnesses, police say it was 8:08 p.m. Tuesday when Williams fell while walking on the sidewalk along the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue, just outside the Family Dollar store.

While Williams was still on the ground, a black Dodge Charger made a right turn into the driveway to the store, hitting Williams.

The driver then got out of the car, then got back into the vehicle and fled the scene.

The driver is described as a Hispanic female in her 40's. The vehicle was last seen travelling west on the 2000 block of Wishart Street.

Williams was transported to Temple University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Wednesday night, investigators released a surveillance photo of the car they believe may have been involved in the hit and run accident. The photo was captured just after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday a block from where the incident took place.

The car is believed to be a dark colored Dodge Charger that stopped at a traffic light before proceeding down Frankford Avenue.

Dhimeter Papa owns a pizza shop across the street. He says a woman outside his eatery ran inside to get her husband seconds after the accident.

"The lady come inside and go and grab him and say come and help me. Everyone say what happened? And we go over to the door and see the lady lying on the ground," said Papa.

"It's a shame. I feel so sorry," said Papa.

Police are asking any other witnesses to contact 215-685-3180 / 3181.
