Area hospitals welcome first babies of 2013

PHILADELPHIA - January 1, 2013

"All the nurses ran in at 12:00 a.m. and screamed Happy New Year!" said Sara Stokes.

Five minutes later, Marguerite Lynn Stokes arrived to join in the party, weighing at 8 pounds and 2 ounces.

The 12:05 delivery was the first of 2013 at Abington Hospital.

"We got to pushing to try to get it in before the end of the year to get the tax break, but that didn't work," said Sara.

Mom focused on tax breaks, while dad was focused on something else.

"Catching highlights from the bowl games," joked Greg Stokes. "No, I was helping mom try to get the baby out."

The happy family of four from Lafayette Hill spent New Year's Day adjusting to their new addition. Big sister, Bridget, about to turn 2, has already learned to share with her sibling.

And in Center City, Pennsylvania Hospital also rang in the New Year with its first baby born at 12:23 a.m.

Jolyna Hojnowski weighed in at 6 pounds 9 ounces and arrived two weeks early!

"She was ready to go," said Joly Hojnowski.

The Center City mom delivered her first child in just 25 minutes.

"We didn't have time for an IV or anything...she was trying to meet that 12:00 deadline," said John Hojnowki.

"This is it, 2013 coming out with a bang," said Joly.

"I am super in love with this little girl," said John.

Both sets of parents are in love with both babies born into the spotlight.

"She's going to go to med school and law school," said Greg Stokes.

Dad is already dreaming of a bright future, while Mom is still thrilled about the day's exciting event.

"It is quite a story; exciting to talk about, and an easy date to remember, 1-1-13," said Sara.
