Pa. man convicted of shooting on Allentown street

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - January 26, 2013

The (Easton) Express says 19-year-old Manuel Figueroa of Allentown was convicted Friday of third-degree murder and reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors had vowed to seek the death penalty if jurors had convicted him of first-degree murder in the September 2011 murder of 19-year-old Daniel Velez, who police said was shot as he was parking on an Allentown street.

Defense attorney Glennis Clark called the verdict fair and said his client was happy "though of course sad that someone lost his life." Chief Deputy District Attorney Jay Jenkins said he respected the jury's verdict.

Officials said Figueroa faces 21 to 42 years when he is sentenced April 15.
