Volunteers to tally homeless population in Del.

The News Journal (http://delonline.us/X3qY4K ) reports several dozen volunteers will conduct the survey this week. The federal government requires the count in every state and U.S. territory. The numbers provide data for researchers and policy makers to understand the problem of homelessness.

Last year's survey counted only those staying in shelters. It found 986 homeless people in Delaware. There were 128 households that included at least one adult and one child. A separate count was held in June and found more than 200 people living without shelter.
