Signing day for two 2 NJ football stars

February 6, 2013

Days after Audubon's Joe Flacco won the Super Bowl and MVP, South Jersey's all-time leading rusher, Glassboro's Corey Clement, signs a letter of intent to play running back at Wisconsin next year and Woodbury quarterback Anthony Averett officially commits to playing defensive back at Alabama.

"It's a special moment for me and my family and my school, a small school like this, this stuff doesn't happen all the time, so of course it's big," Averett said.

While Averett has the pressure to make a difference at Alabama who's won three of the last four national championships, Clement has some big shoes to fill at Wisconsin with Heisman Trophy candidate Montee Ball leaving school.

"It feels right with Montee Ball leaving a legacy behind, it just makes me even more hungry to be him," Clement said.

This is a dream come true for both Clement and Averett.

In fact, it's a dream they've shared together since they were little kids.

Believe it or not, the two have been best friends ever since they went to elementary school together.

"We've always dreamed about doing this. Actually, it's kind of coming true, so it's big for me and his family," Averett said.

"I am happy for him. It's never a down moment for him; he's just always worked hard," Clement said.

Both are hoping hard work at the college level will eventually get them to the NFL.
