Just a few months ago, it was looking like a repeat of December 2011 and early 2012.
"Last year was the worst year we've ever had. It was the warmest winter on record. In December it started out that way, it was a very warm December, I think like seven degrees above average. We didn't get open until December 29th," said Rick Buckman, Spring Mountain Ski Resort.
It was the first time in thirteen years that Spring Mountain Ski Resort near Schwenksville wasn't open for the Christmas holiday and business suffered.
Natural snowfall will allow the slopes to stay open longer and even though snow-making machines can make up for the real thing, if it's too warm:
"You can't make snow unless it's below freezing. I mean the colder and drier that air, the better," said Buckman.
It didn't look to great on the slopes Friday afternoon. There was some hail falling and later on it started sleeting.
Instructors and park crew were the only ones on the slopes at Spring Mountain.
However with the activity found at area ski shops like Buckman's in King of Prussia that should change in less than 24 hours.
"We're picking up Josie's new snowboard. She grew out of her old one," said Taylor Boyle.
Boyle and her 9-year-old are thrilled about the latest storm.
"I'm really happy because I like the powdered snow and it's really fun to carve and you don't have to turn as much," said Josie.
Josie and her mom will be headed to Bear Creek on Saturday.
Meanwhile back at Spring Mountain, they're gearing up for lots of skiers in this weekend and keeping an eye on the forecast.
"I've been looking at your website, I've been following Street Tracker 6 and watching the freeze ling all day long," said Buckman.
