Suspect nearly strikes DE officer with vehicle

NEWARK, Del. - March 15, 2013

Police say 22-year-old Sean Jeavons turned himself in to Newark Police two hours after hitting a police car and barely missing an officer.

Police responded to reports of a possible drunk driver who was seen weaving down New London Road.

Witnesses say the driver of a gold Dodge Caravan appeared to have fallen asleep at a traffic light before stopping in the parking lot of a McDonald's on East Main Street in Newark.

The approaching officer observed what appeared to be heroin packets in the car and a needle in the driver's hand.

Police say Jeavons slammed the car in reverse as the officer announced himself, nearly striking the officer, and sped off, striking the officer's marked police vehicle.

Police conducted a search and quickly learned the identity of the suspect.

Jeavons turned himself in two hours later, and faces a number of charges including reckless endangering in the 1st degree, possession of heroin and other related offenses.

Police say Jeavons, who is from Landenberg, Pennsylvania, was driving without insurance.
