Just before 6:00 p.m., New Jersey State police were called out to the Atlantic City Expressway near Route 42.
The horses, numbered at three to four, were in the northbound lanes of the Atlantic City Expressway.
State Police say that just before 7:00 p.m. the owner of the horses, a local farmer, was able to get to the scene and retrieve his horses.
He then brought them back to his farm.
There is no word yet on how the horses got loose.
