Carolyn Harris, 37, of the 5300 block of Poplar Street, was arrested on Sunday for the murder of 59-year-old Peter Miles, the Philadelphia Police Department said.
Officers were called to the Poplar Street home on Friday where they found Miles dead in his bed with multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Police say it appeared Miles had been dead for a few days.
Shortly after discovering the crime, police said they believed Miles knew his killer, adding his neat and well-maintained home showed no sign of forced entry.
The house where the stabbing occurred had belonged to Miles' mother and had long been a gathering place for his children and grandchildren, his family told Action News.
Police have not yet released a suspected motive in this case.
